Our History
Delmonico Grill opened its doors in 2007 under the direction of beloved local chef Pete Franklin. From the beginning, Pete established Delmonico as a destination for exceptional steaks, fresh seafood, and an extensive wine selection, all served in a comfortable setting with a distinctive jazz-inspired atmosphere.
Over the years, several dishes became synonymous with the Delmonico Grill experience. Favorites such as the “On Green Dolphin St.” and “Kona” Ribeye earned permanent places on the menu, alongside signature dishes like the Bourbon Sweet Potato Mash and French Onion Soup. These classics helped shape the identity and tradition of Delmonico Grill.
When Pete decided to pursue new endeavors, he was determined not to see the restaurant he had built disappear. He turned to his friend, neighbor, and fellow local chef, Benjamin Klinkel, and entrusted him with carrying Delmonico Grill into its next chapter.
Benjamin brought with him his own vision, creativity, and passion for hospitality. Since taking the helm, he has worked to build upon the foundation Pete created while introducing new flavors, new ideas, and a renewed energy throughout the restaurant.
Today, Delmonico Grill honors the dishes and traditions that helped make it a beloved Rapid City institution while continuing to evolve. With the support of a talented team of chefs, managers, and servers, we strive to bring new life to both the kitchen and dining room—showcasing an ever-changing selection of exceptional food and wine from around the world, as well as the remarkable ingredients and producers found right here at home.
